J-Felix turns the party out on his newest effort titled, "J-Freq". This premium funk record will rock your socks off, hit play below:
The Bristol-born and Brighton-based, J-Felix aka Joe Newman crafts a solid tune with smooth gliding funk guitars, an undeniable bassline that magnetizes the eardrums and hard-hitting groove to match. Using original material to create a disco edit, dancefloor anthem “J-Freq” reflects the techniques J-Felix has picked up on during his recent heavy DJ schedule; “I pretty much write a classic sounding funk/disco groove – layering up keys, percussion, bass and guitars over live drum samples – and then reprocess everything, chop it, mess with it and record it back in”. Recorded at Jimmy Day’s analog studio in Brighton with additional synths and percussion, everything was run through a vintage SSL desk to create a finish reminiscent to late 70s/early 80s sounds. For those into this type of music, you can hear the Heatwave and early Michael Jackson disco influences
With his full live band, J-Felix has since supported sold out shows with the likes of Roy Ayers, Chinese Man, George Clinton, and The Hot 8 Brass band. He’s also an eclectic selector, having DJ’d Glastonbury, Love Supreme and Shambala Festivals to name a few. J-Felix spins music from across the soulful spectrum – from Hip-Hop through Funk to House.
