While the fashionably of-the-moment checkerboard album artwork may have been what first piqued my interest, Australian beat maker WILDLYF’s new single “Wrong” with vocalist Vic August has the staying power to hold my attention.
A ear-pleasing experimental bass hybrid accented with punchy synths and powerful vocals from August brings the listener to a place of both tenderness and power. Those in the scene will tell you the Australian underground has been steadily pushing out some of the biggest talent in recent years, and it appears WILDLYF is next in line to the down under beatmaker throne. Vic August brings a sensual R&B touch to his vocals, which throws the high-energy sound design for a mellow loop. The sonic collision of light and dark is one of my favorites, and "Wrong" delivers. With support from production luminaries of the likes of NGHTMRE, Slander, Alison Wonderland, Slumberjack, and YehMe2, it's undoubtable that WILDLYF is on the rise.
