Dang, it’s a great time to be a Hip Hop fan. Kendrick is the king of just about every “Best of 2017” list, Black Thought recently sonned EVERYONE with arguably the greatest freestyle ever, and BROCKHAMPTON released their third album this year.
What’s more, platforms like Spotify and SoundCloud (which is miraculously still kickin’) have significantly lowered the barrier to entry for emcees of all shapes and sizes to display their talents. Take, Nigerian rapper Phlow, for instance. On her latest cut, “Pre Flux Freestyles,” Phlow spits serious bars and proves that she is a voice to watch as we make the turn into 2018.
“Pre Flux Freestyles” is a medley of three individual songs that Phlow has toyed around with in recent months. Each track features a different classic cut, from Dennis Edwards’ “Don’t Look Any Further” to Mobb Deep’s “Shook Ones” and Jay-Z's “Feeling It.” On each of those samples, Phlow effortlessly rides their respective beats with a calm ferocity, dropping lines like “Took about a second to hone it ,I won’t be dragging Breath fire like I'mma dragonness” and “Putting that work into locomotion , Yo take your seat Hah , Murder the beat My pen-a-tentiary.”
The above track is less of a sampler and more of an appetizers to tide fans over until the release of her LP, Flux. No word yet on a specific date but fans can expect the project to drop sometime in 2018. Until then, smash the play button on “Pre Flu Freestyles” above and be sure to keep it locked right here on EARMILK for all things dope music.
