In advance of his supporting role on tour with Local Natives' Kelcey Ayer and following up on the release of his EP Unfree, singer-songwriter Daniel Alexander comes forward today with a chilling visual for his song "Separatehood". Building on themes explored throughout the EP, the visual is stuffed with imagery around religious and ideological belief that brings even more meaning to the song they score.
Unfree, as well as the visual for "Separatehood", are rooted in resentment for the norm and desire for notable change to take place. Daniel says about the project, "Liberty, freedom, democracy…these words are just signposts of the new tyranny. It is disguised as benign, morally just, and from that position can enact the worst, most insidious, most manipulative control. These words no longer have any basis in their meaning, in reality. What is Liberty in a country with total surveillance, microphones in lamp-posts? What is freedom when I can do what I want with my body, but not my mind? And what is a democracy when money dictates truth, information, the outcomes of elections and referenda?"
Unfree is out now. Listen to it here.
