Marcel Everett, AKA LA beatsmith xxyyxx, has returned from the shadows with a new track, the dark, moody "I Don't" featuring rapper $K. Everett has been gone for almost two years, his last release being a song he uploaded to Soundcloud called "Red". While neither "Red" nor "I Don't" came with any grander statement regarding an album or EP on the way, Everett did at least announce a tour with Ann Arbor electronic musician Chrome Sparks DJing in support.
It's also safe to say that xxyyxx's sound has certainly matured since he more or less disappeared. "I Don't" is filled with nocturnal, sinister vibes, accompanied by gloomy lyrics from $K about drugs and living life a little too fast. The trap-flavored production is fleshed out with some electric guitar, rumbling synth bass, and disembodied pitched up vocal snippets.
