Kendrick Lamar's "Love" receives sultry cover from Xie [Premiere]

Covering a Kendrick Lamar song isn't an easy task, but Xie hit the nail on the head with this one. The LA-based producer and singer took a stab at Kendrick's standout track "LOVE. (feat. Zacari)" from his Billboard 200 chart-topping album DAMN. and flipped it into a sultry indie electronic jam.

Replacing Kendrick's iconic vocals with her own feathery vox, Xie does a good job of tipping her cap to the rapper without butchering his artistry. She also experiments with a litany of sounds, interweaving them in impressive fashion. "Love," she explained in an exclusive quote to EARMILK, was the perfect song for her to cover:

I’ve always been a huge fan of hip-hop, and this song just asked me to dance with it. Love isn’t just about romance, it’s an emotional topic that everyone struggles with. I operate off of emotion, probably too much, so it was really fun and therapeutic to connect with such great writing and bring the song to life in my own way.
