Weaves have released the first single off their upcoming sophomore album Wide Open, out on October 6 via Buzz/Kanine/Memphis Industries. This follows just over a year after the release of their self-titled debut, during which time they were nominated for a Juno and long listed for the Polaris Music Prize. "#53" is a signifier that just like their career, their music is not losing any momentum.

The track is anthemic in the truest sense of the word, coming in with an instantly memorable melody pulsed forward by bendy guitars and a driving rhythm. This line is repeated throughout the whole song, blanketed in varying amounts of noise and other instrumentation, creating an unbroken stream of movement until the breakdown's intricate hi-hat display. Burke's vocals showcase their signature warble-y strength as she sings "So don't tell me what you wanna hear/I don't wanna hear it." Start your day listening to this and it'll be a good one.
The band will be kicking off a North American/European tour in the fall.
