Brooklyn songwriter Danielle “Danz” Johnson is known for dishing out her cosmic pop skills via her stage name, "Computer Magic" and was even recently applauded by Vogue for breaking the glass ceiling for female producers.
Los Angeles musician Cody Crump has played every notable left coast venue, from Soho House to The Roxy and his music has ben featured in HBO's "Leftovers," Showtime's Penny Dreadful, and ABC's "How To Get Away With Murder."
The two artists separated by an entire country met one day to write a song and enjoyed the process so much they decided to do it again, then again, until those sessions culminated in the creation of a new indie rock side project, "Cody & Danz". Together, they've created five fun and care-free tracks for their debut EP, aptly named Only The Hits.
Today, they're premiering their music video for one of the tracks, "Make It In America." The song is all bells and echoes and in the video those sounds vibrate from NYC all the way to LA, as we watch Cody & Danz make themselves home against the iconography that makes up both cities.
Sharing the motivation behind the new single with EARMILK, Danz said "We wanted to make an upbeat song about trying to make it, even when everything kind of falls apart around you, you still keep going- specifically in America because you hear so often about the American dream, I think Cody and I are both trying to make it here." Agreeing with, Danz, Cody mentioned, "America is a deeply flawed, but wonderful place. I like to believe that the 'American Dream' is alive and well, but heaven knows, only time will tell."
If the question is "can you make it in America?" the answer – for at least Cody and Danz, is yes.
Only The Hits will be released on Danz’s own label Channel 9 Records here in the USA and Tugboat Records in Japan.
