Four months ago Toronto quartet PONY gave us a sugary single called "DIY" that coincided with their signing with punk/indie label Buzz Records. The track was sweet as can be, with vocalist/guitarist Sam Bielanski delivering bratty, upbeat, yet apathetic lyrics on breakups through catchy melodies and soft atmospheres. The band has finally shot a music video for the track and it's a fitting piece to the candied break-up ballad.
The music video for "DIY" was directed by Shawn Kosmerly of Here Kitty Kitty Productions and shot in a studio, DIY style, to match the song's theme. The visual features Bielanski, bassist Eva Link, drummer Matt Sandrin and guitarist Stephen Giroux performing the song in a small space together, with scenes of Bielanski singing into a bedazzled phone as it were a microphone, and clips of her dancing while singing into a corded phone. It definitely channels memories of cute tweeny '90s movies and Tiger Beat Magazine culture.
"DIY" comes from PONY's upcoming EP, due out this fall on Buzz Records. Catch the band at one of their few upcoming shows, listed below.
