Giorgio Moroder celebrated his 77th birthday back in April, but the Italo Disco king is showing no signs of slowing down; he’s not choosing to rest on his many laurels, either. The legendary Donna Summer producer has his pick of collaborators, but in the true spirit of the dancefloor, he’s still making room for up-and-comers. Proof is in his latest track, a collaboration with dance-pop duo Phantoms "Champagne, Secrets, & Chanel" featuring Prince Charlez.
Newcomers Kyle Kaplan and Vinnie Pergola of the LA-based Phantoms bring a fresh take on disco to the track. Combined with Moroder’s experience, it makes sense why “Champagne, Secrets, & Chanel” has something of a timeless quality to it.
Every good disco track deserves sexy vocals, and let’s just say that Prince Charlez totally delivers. The LA-based artist is better known for collaborating with Beyonce, Mary J Blige, and Rihanna than with disco pioneers, but thanks to his voice that soars over the track in a way reminiscent of favorite pop divas from almost any era, it totally works.
Prince Charlez described the collaboration best on his Instagram: it’s exactly what one would expect “when Italy and Compton link up!”
