It's an epic and undoubtedly tasty new number from LA based artist Michl. Released yesterday Waste? exhibits wonderful duality starting off with minimalistic synths, percussion and an unforgettably catchy vocal lick. The verses very comfortable, indeed perfect in their production silences, subtle variations of percussion, and vocal sampling. All this is shortly followed by sonic explosions into incredibly full, opulent, and decadently soulful choruses. Whilst musically and melodically sounding so confident and assured, the lyrics let the uncertainty creep in as Michl sings:
"so what's next
are we stuck here?
can anyone repair the mess we've made
once bright
is now unclear
will every dream we hold start to fade?
will everything we built go to waste?
go to waste?"
About the track Michl says: “When I’m moving, I never really know if it’s forward or backward. It’s not until I look back and realize which direction I was going. By that time, I have to ask myself the question over again.”
