Rugby Wild is a rapper. He's not a household name just yet, but he's definitely worth the attention he's already garnered in his circles growing up in New Jersey, and now in his home base of LA. His breakout single "Chevy" features playful, dreamlike production, a catchy hook and an engaging flow. His persona seems to fit between underground hip-hop of the east and the laid-back stylings of the west. And his new single premiering here at EARMILK, "Topanga," is more of what we want from Rugby Wild, sitting on top of a flashy visual that sits as an ode to finding a girl that matches his coolness.
As soon as the track begins, Rugby Wild's production sticks out as a hazy medley reminiscent of an instrumental from MF DOOM's Special Herbs series. The video properly introduces Rugby as he cruises around his home of Los Angeles, sporting an '80s cell phone, surrounded by women and popping up through vintage, washed up footage close to the appearance of an infomercial. He raps for just under two minutes, briefing us on his cool style and girl choice. It's clear here: Dude wants a girl as cool as "Topanga" from Boy Meets World. Who doesn't?
Be on the lookout for Rugby Wild's double album titled Millennials to drop by this summer. It's seeking to give guidance to the carefree natures of our generation while also promising new heat purely made for the summer.
