Justin Jay launched his new label venture Fantastic Voyage earlier this year, and based on its latest release this month, it's worth some considerable investment. Bringing in new and aspiring talent is the label's cornerstone, and they may have just found their first prodigy in Sam von Horn. His EP Zone was released late last week, and with a listen, only feels like the tip of the iceberg of what he can offer the world. Though he might seem like a great discovery, his connection to Jay himself is actually deep rooted – the two went to school together from kindergarten. They've DJ'd the same parties, leading parallel lives of love for underground dance music. So it's fitting that Sam joined Fantastic Voyage for his first foray into making music, and it's something that feels fitting for an artist who's been in the making for this long, especially alongside someone like Jay.
Zone is a journey through soundscapes of electronica and deep house. It calls for your strict attention while requiring none at all, easing us into each of its four tracks with an expectation to be surprised. Jay of course makes an appearance on "As You Are," but the rest of Zone gives us a "fantastic" introduction to Sam himself. Streaming now, the EP is also available via Bandcamp.
