The UK music scene is booming right now; a vibrant mix of exciting new talent and the faithful and trustworthy old guard who are leading the way. The last couple of years has seen the music over the pond make the long and often shaky transition stateside, with many artists putting on shows and having major success over here. One up-and-comer that caught my eye in the last couple of weeks, is R&B songstress Cartae. Born and raised in London, Cartae started off as a rapper, before a new fondness of artists such as Little Dragon and Blood Orange, saw her switch course, and hone her vocal talents, which has cumulated in the release of her debut single "All I Have".
Backed by an uptempo, funky instrumental, Cartae swoons across the beat, mixing those girl-group harmonies with some very catchy vocal hooks. Lyrically, she comes correct, telling a new-age love story of trying to give someone her love, which is all that she has. The instrumental was produced by Ragz Originale, who's previously worked with the likes of Skepta, Oscar#WorldPeace and CASISDEAD, and is an heavenly mix of 808's with a distorted bassline and airy synth sounds mixing above, giving an almost nostalgic vibe about the joint.
