Two new Rapsody tracks within the past week? I ain’t mad about it. Alright, all puns aside, it’s great to hear Rapsody following up last week’s “Fire” with another hot track in “Mad”.

For those of you paying attention to good music, you’ll notice right away that Eric G sampled Solange’s “Mad” off of her stellar A Seat at the Table that dropped a few months back. This is awesome to hear on a few levels. First and foremost, “Mad” from Solange’s album is a fantastic track. It features Lil Wayne being incredibly honest, relatable and has this fantastic piano beat that pairs perfectly with Solange’s voice. Second, people can get a little over protective and dismissive when it comes to sampling, but in my eyes, it’s more of a sign of respect. To sample someone is to say you vibe with their music so much, you’d like to pay homage by flipping it in your own way.
So with that in mind, Rapsody does her thing on her version of “Mad”. She uses this song as a musical victory lap, calling out anyone and everyone who has hated on her for her success. “Some others mad we make more money/ Your single hot, but my whole album hot, we make more from it/”. As the song progresses, we see her turn inwards at times to show her frustration with our current world and what has been upsetting her.
All in all, this song is very telling of Rapsody’s future. She’s clearly hungry and has been consistently dropping some great tracks. I’m looking forward to seeing what she has in store for 2017. Be sure to keep your eyes and ears on EARMILK for more news on Rapsody.
