Crosstown Rebels, fronted by Damian Lazarus, is a label well known for bringing the most exciting, original and carefully crafted underground electronic music to the table. So it goes without saying that on November 11th, after months of teasing on every kind of social media platform imaginable, Skream (aka Oliver Jones) presented his two-track EP You Know, Right? to the fans through Crosstown.
The title track has been heard by concert goers and podcast listeners since the very beginning of the summer season this year. Being road tested from Eastern Electrics to Ibiza – this was one song that caught everybody's attention. Opening with crackling vinyl and a UK garage sounding beat, this song takes many of us on a journey back to house parties in the early 2000's. Sampling some passionate vocals on loop with dreamy yet eerie sounding synths, this became an iconic track before it even had an official release date.
On the B-side we have "Minor Smooth," that although it brings a completely different sound than its A-side companion, it is by no means inferior. "Minor Smooth" is a perfectly executed journey full of deep, clanging, techy vibes. Again with the eerie sounds, punches of synth appear throughout the track and are mixed with the kind of percussion and quickfire, snappy beats that Skream has blended to a tee.
