It’s hard to think of a techno aficionado that’s been as influential to the genre as Brazilian artist Christian Smith. Ever since launching his own imprint, Tronic, in 1994, Christian Smith has been making waves within the dance music community, specifically as one of the first artists to start bringing elements of both house and techno together as well as being one of the most active producers in the scene. He’s now back on Drumcode for a new thigh energy, driving, three track techno EP, Force Majeure.

The title track opens with crisp percussion and a driving beat, but soon enough, beautiful synths crescendo in, giving the track a warmth often missing from the genre. With the help of some increasingly reverbed synths, Christian Smith builds the track with a tenseness sure to illicit goosebumps. The second track, “Bells of Odin,” opens with a galloping bass and forceful, crisp percussion. Early in the track, though, a harsh, swiping synth is brought in at the beginning of every bar, juxtaposed against the ever-increasing bells the track was named for. The final track, “Release,” has already been incredibly popular, making its way into a myriad of artist’s sets already this summer. The energy from the synth Christian Smith uses is palpable and sets the tone for the entire track, while the ever-changing percussion keeps the listener enthralled.

Force Majeure, as a whole, showcases Christian Smith’s wide diversity and talent as a producer. This is definitely one EP that cannot be missed. Pick up your copy on Beatport today!
