Today, society finds a way to sexualize a woman regardless of what they do, say, or wear. In UK multi-instrumentalistACTOR’s latest release, “Girls Do,” she sings out of frustration for this double-standard that the industry and audience have created. Look pretty, but don’t try too hard — dress sexy, but don’t sell sex. In her battle cry against these impossible standards cast upon her, she sings through distorted guitars, exclaiming that she (and everyone else) should dress, talk, act, and present themselves however they damn well please. It’s a beautiful bit of self-reflection and proclamation that is crafted with poignant precision.
