It’s hard not to sway along to the upbeat indie-folk grooves of London group Crystal Fighters. It’s no surprise that vocalist Ellie Fletcher needed a distinctly different creative project outside of Fighters and thus Kyiki was born. Her solo project revels in minimalistic melodies and brooding vocals that are equally haunting and ethereal. Her latest single “We Are The Ocean,” oozes with emotion and conviction as the pounding percussion creates a sonic chorus that will breathe life into the listener. Fletcher continues to evolve with her style, proving that she can create sunny upbeat indie tunes with Fighters and compelling dark pop songs through Kyiki.
