New Zealand-bred indie pop-rockers Yumi Zouma have quickly made a name for themselves in pop music since dropping their debut EP, featuring the sleeper hit "The Brae", in 2014. While most artists in the genre were looking for the next big futuristic sound, Yumi Zouma looked backwards, blending a retro aesthetic with productions reminiscent of the '80s and infectiously catchy melodies on their first and second EPs.
Since then, some of pops biggest stars (cough, Taylor Swift and Carly Rae Jepsen) have mimicked Yumi Zouma's approach with great success. But no one has crystallized the sound quite as well as the Kiwi band and it shows on their new single, "Keep It Close To Me," a subtley synthed-out soft rock jam loaded with vocal and instrumental hooks that sounds like spring. With the new single comes news of a debut album, Yoncalla, due out May 27 in the U.S. on indie label Cascine. Check out the new single below and look out for more from the band before the album drops.
