With a name like "VV Violence," you might expect Jessy Lanza's latest single off of Oh No to go all "Kill v. Maim" on our asses. Not quite, although it does feel like Lanza's channeling the same tempo and take-no-shit attitude through a gentler lens of retro-futurist R&B. "I say it to your face but it doesn't mean a thing," she admits unapologetically, amid cutesy interjections and staccato synth chords.
Oh No is Lanza's sophomore album for Hyperdub Records. Once again, the production side of things will feature Jeremy Greenspan of Junior Boys, who just released an album of their own, Big Black Coat. Lanza and the Junior Boys are currently touring North America together, check the dates below while you listen to "VV Violence." Oh No is out May 13.
