Arthur Ashin is the man behind Autre Ne Veut, a provocative PBR&B outfit fresh off the release of 2015 record, Age of Transparency. Ashin is known for melding his ardent, semi-cloying pop vocal style to a plexus of electronics – perhaps drawing from the influence of his once college roommate, Daniel Lopatin (aka Oneohtrix Point Never).
New York electronicist, Malory Butler – better known behind the decks by just her first name – has remixed “Never Wanted”, one of the lesser-known tracks from the new Autre Ne Veut LP. Malory grabs the gasps and snippets of impassioned Ashin vocals and weaves them into an assiduously gathered texture. To bolster the pieces, she appropriates the original track’s frenetic rhythms and creates a throbbing techno beat, complete with the 4am sweat dripping from the dark walls of a Brooklyn warehouse.
