Chicago's world-famous footwork crew, Teklife, likes to mix it up when it comes to the labels they release on; Hyperdub, LuckyMe, and Lit City Trax have all been called home, among others. Still, it came as a slight surprise when Teklife member DJ Paypal announced the Sold Out EP on Flying Lotus' imprint, Brainfeeder. It feels right once you click play on first single "Awakening," though, with Paypal's jazzy saxophone sampling right in line with what's been going on at Brainfeeder lately. Hearing jazz music and footwork combined so effectively is a treat, like hearing 50+ years of club music all rolled together.
The Sold Out EP will be released November 13, featuring contributions from DJ Earl, DJ Taye, Feloneezy, Jackie Dagger, Nangdo, Keiska, and Tielsie. Check out "Awakening" below, as well as the EP tracklist.
