New music is fortunately not a rare thing for Ryan Hemsworth, who always seems to have a new remix, mixtape, or fledgling artist to showcase on his label, Secret Songs. It's a little less common for him to settle down and put together an official release, so today's announcement of a collaborative EP with Secret Songs recruit Lucas is certainly exciting news. The Taking Flight EP will be available for free on October 9th, and you can hear the lead track, "Angel," below.
The Seattle-based Matt Lucas first popped up on Secret Songs a year ago with "Keep U Warm," and the two producers have since crafted a six-track collection inspired by their mutual interests. As Hemsworth put it in a recent Billboard interview, "We both still rely on the shit we listened to in junior high," so it's no surprise that the inspiration for "Angel" is defined as "childhood and pop punk." The track is technically nowhere near pop punk, but both producers have a knack for conjuring remarkable unity out of disparate genres of music.
