Zach Saginaw technically hasn't released anything as Shigeto in two years, but he's certainly kept busy with touring, remixing, producing for rappers, and performing in the jazz ensemble High Risk. Last month he gave away a collaborative EP with Devonwho, 2010, that they put together five years ago, but never managed to officially release. Saginaw has followed that surprise with news of his next Ghostly International release, the six-track Intermission EP, out October 30th.
While he admits that, true to it's name, Intermission won't quite reveal any "concrete new path" for Shigeto, lead single "Pulse" suggests that the EP's sure to bring a few new ideas to the table. First of all, "Pulse" is one of the longest tracks we've seen from him, a seven-minute journey through a rainforest of earthy percussion, cold, uneasy synth melodies, and spectral breaths of human voice. The song moves at a pace close to techno, but feels more suited for introspective occasions. Pre-order the Intermission EP here.
