Cam Sheely is a young ATL rapper who is getting ready to drop his debut project Keep In Mind. As a preview of what’s to come, he gives us, “Role Model,” enlisting Wondagurl and Eestbound behind the boards. Wondagurl is one of the rare female producers in hip hop and she packs an envious list of production credits (Travis Scott, Jay-Z, SZA, Young Thug, Big Sean…). Eestbound comes from Canada with her, and they seem to make a great team, as they’ve been frequently collaborating (Tre Capital’s mixtape, Travis Scott, and Young Thug).
What caught my attention about this song was Cam’s hook, “Wait what the fuck am I saying? I am the perfect role model…” Cam is just another guy chasing his dreams. He’s bettering his craft and working hard, why shouldn’t he be proud of that? This is something we can all takeaway: If you’re not going to believe in yourself, no one else will.
