When I first heard Sean Wharton, stage name On Planets, I knew there was something special about his music. Though relatively unknown, the Vancouver native shares a spot alongside SNBRN, Dr. Fresch, and Colour Vision in the degrade.LA crew. His remixes of "Asleep On The Bus" and "Not At All" garnered significant buzz over the internet, leaving some to believe his original work would be even better. Well, we can safely tell you that is true. His latest production, "Spectacle" alongside Maddie Duke is the first of several promising originals for On Planets in 2015.
Minimal and pleasant with its direction and choice sounds, "Spectacle" is the electrifying pop soundtrack to a dismal winter day in Vancouver. The hauntingly reverberating synth stabs and twinkling found-sound accents underscore Duke's vocal performance. The combination Impeccably compliments the emotion of Winter's unforgivingly cold hand exemplified.
“It’s about getting lost in a moment of magic," Duke explains, "One that captures you and makes you realize new things about someone, and that you might be more invigorated by them than you’ve let yourself believe." Together, Duke and Planets have made the perfectly warm song for a city where the snow rarely melts.
