Jason Chung recently announced Fated, his third album as Nosaj Thing. A few weeks ago, he teased a short new track, "Medic," on Jon Hopkins' BBC Radio 1 residency, but now he's given us a more substantial offering, the soulful, moody "Cold Stares," featuring Chance the Rapper.
The two have collaborated before, on Acid Rap bonus track "Paranoia." They're a good fit on both tracks, Chung's sparse, spacey beats providing a well-suited platform for Chance's witty, experimental wordplay. Nosaj Thing is also in full-on experimental mode on "Cold Stares," weaving together a chorus of voices (both synthetic and from additional contributors The O'My's) with smoldering tones and even moments of pure silence. It's safe to say he's never sounded quite like this, which only makes his return all the sweeter. Fated drops May 5 via Innovative Leisure, check out the tracklist below.
