There's no denying that tropical house and its corroborators have taken the world by storm. Some consider the sound a proverbial bandwagon that people are "hopping onto", but the style is built for so much more. The tropical sound is meant to bring the more passive festival goers into the spotlight. Those that find relaxation from sunny days and clear oceans. From hammock lovers to beachcombers, tropical house has a place for nearly all adventure seekers.
This week, we found a remix of Calvin Harris and Ellie Goulding's "Outside" that plays to the tune of palm trees and sunbrellas. You may recognize the remix artist. His name is Maestro Harrell and he once played Randy Wagstaff on The Wire. Today, he's an electro/prog house DJ and producer living in Los Angeles. His use of tapered slow-attack marimbas, sun-washed reverb, and bouncing syncopations play well into the themes of the sunshine soundscapes of tropical house. Listen below!
