Wrapping up a year filled with plenty of celebration in homage of the 20 years Josh Wink's OVUM Recordings has been standing strong at the forefront of electronic music, the label intends to show us why they've been cruising along steadily these last two decades. Vince Watson's newest EP marks the 250th release for the imprint. Yes, we mean 250 one-of-a-kind releases under one label's library catalog — impressive, right? And, really, what better way to celebrate such accomplishment than by inviting one of the figure heads responsible for gapping the bridge between house and techno in glorious fashion early on in the genre's development.
Deja Vu EP is a techno knocker that even invites label boss Wink to re-think Watson's track "Illusion" into a dismembered acid trip you'll keep replaying. What's more, Watson himself includes three marvelous renditions of "Deja Vu" that, indeed, keeps us locked into an inceptive state of mind where the recurrence of the track plays familiarly over and over rendered with different thematics each time. After "Deja Vu"'s buried sentiment, we also get ambient and beatless versions that takes listeners into an abyssal daze of emotion.
