"Pure" doesn't have the overabundance of confidence that fans have come to expect from the young emcee's songs. While the typical easygoing flow remains, it doesn't function to highlight his nonchalant cockiness; rather, Rome utilizes it to push out some of his dark secrets. "Pure" isn't about ambition, money, or women—even though he alludes to them all—it's about one man's anxiety on the path he has chosen for himself. Rome's vulnerability and the way he unabashedly bares all is simultaneously inspiring and disconcerting; nevertheless, it is absolutely amazing to hear.
Jacques Greene provides the production on "Pure" and his ethereal vocal sample greatly aids Rome's introspective rant. The bass steadily crawls molasses-like across the track, which compliments the muted flow and sets the entire vibe right. Muffled production gives the emcee enough room to full express himself and be heard clearly; so his voice can have the emotional impact of the weighty lyrics.
Rome Fortune has had many great collaborations before, but this has to be in his top five so far.
