With an impressive musical background which includes official remixes for the likes of AlunaGeorge, Toronto-based producer Will Diebel, aka Deebs, creates a unique brand of trap-infused electronica. His latest effort, the five-track Songs4UByMe EP, does not disappoint.
Available as a free download, the Songs4UByMe EP is the follow-up project to 2013's Awry EP. Of his most recent offering, Deebs says, "This EP actually brings me back to last winter, when I was working on most of this stuff. It was super cold [in Toronto] until like April – a pretty depressing time of the year, but making music has a way of soothing the soul – I think it translates into the hopeful feelings you can hear throughout the EP".
Deebs' sound has been described by his contemporaries as restless and theatrical with a highly emotional core. The five tracks included on the Songs4UByMe EP are incredibly layered – dark, gritty club beats are balanced with romantic, soft sounds inspired by the nighttime and feelings of nostalgia.
Although "At Last", a bass-heavy melter with serious vibes, is the EP's standout, all songs exemplify the artist's extraordinary musical talent. "3 Tears" and "Morning Sun" are ethereal and melodic, while "Waves" has an addictive, driving beat. Lastly, the dark, "Closing My Eyes To Remember Your Face", captures a multitude of emotions without the use of lyrics.
