Originally from Birmingham, England, the Los Angeles four-piece Deluka have been making a climb in 2014 after a finding their fair share of success in the past. In looking back to their popular 2010 full-length, You Are the Night was compared to both Ladytron and The Killers with its high energy electro punk elements, solidifying the band in the ears of tastemakers and casual listeners alike. Having released an EP entitled Bonds earlier this year, the new material finds the band at a different point in their career, opting for more mature and grounded music throughout. Now, Deluka carry all of their past experience and current momentum into a cover of Sam Smith's acclaimed single "Stay With Me".
Built around swelling synths, Deluka's cover of "Stay With Me" can be considered traditional, sticking with the original melodic structure while tossing it through their own personal lens to break things up. Relying heavily on Ellie Innocenti's vocal delivery, she answers the bell, guiding the song along with ease without ever distracting from the covers intention and focus. In all, if Deluka keep to the path set in motion by their EP earlier this year they should continue to pull people onto their evolving sound.
