ASTR hasn't released original music since the Varsity EP came out a few months ago (a few cuts off the EP have had long legs though, particularly "Blue Hawaii"), but they've been on a roll when it comes to DJ sets and remixes. In the last three weeks, ASTR has remixed fellow Neon Gold artists Big Data and Wildcat! Wildcat! and played a set for BBC Radio 1Xtra's Diplo and Friends show. Now they've taken on electro pop duo Night Drive's "Young Rivals," and the result is a funky, nostalgic treat.
The track sounds like some ASTR early efforts, including "R U With Me," with bright synths, basic drum machines and, overall, a late 80s, early 90s feel. Meanwhile, Night Drive's dramatic vocals sound like something off a late 80s David Bowie album. Give the song a listen for yourself. It's a buoyant, bouncy pickup packed with electronic nostalgia for brisk fall days
