When beat making savant Flying Lotus hinted earlier this year that he and hip-hop champion Kendrick Lamar had some collaborations in the works, fanboys alike were sent into a state of frenzy. FlyLo went on to say in an interview with Pitchfork last month that, "He took, like, 12, 13 of my tracks, man. I think he recorded all of them, too," and last night one of these fabled collaborations was debuted through Power 106's LA Leakers.
The track is the second released single off of Flylo's upcoming LP You're Dead!, one that he has described as a progressive jazz record foremost. He manages to stick to his word, providing K. Dot with a frantic but melodically moving instrumental (luscious basslines provided by Thundercat), on which he lays some moving, thought-provoking rhymes about life & death. The end result is nothing short of magic, as if both parties are feeding off of others energy in order to reach new heights.
