Run the Jewels are back with new album, share "Blockbuster Night Part 1"

There are plenty of rap duos out there, but it's extra special when two already-confirmed legends join forces and it works out perfectly.  That's what happened when El-P and Killer Mike teamed up as Run the Jewels last year, delivering a machine-gun blast of articulate trash talk that found the two rappers trading verses and even finishing each other's sentences.  Run the Jewels was one of the best hip-hop albums of last year, the product of two intensely political minds who just wanted to have some fun for a change.

Now if you follow EL-P and Killer Mike's social media goings-on and so forth, you probably know that they're pretty much bffs these days.  So it's no surprise that they've been continuing to record as Run the Jewels, and already have a new album ready.  RTJ2 will drop October 28 thru Mass Appeal, and the duo has shared "Blockbuster Night Part 1" to hold us over until then.  The track is unsurprisingly quite ferocious, but definitely more towards the serious side than much of what we heard on their debut album.  It's amazing how despite what they've already done, Run the Jewels is full of potential to do more.  They're too talented to be a one-trick pony, so don't be surprised if RTJ2 is a whole different beast.

I received my degree in English from Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, and Virginia is still home. Apart from my yearly pilgrimage to Moogfest and occasional shows in DC, Detroit, and New York, I like to stick to the fringes, with an eye always open toward music that is forward-thinking and unique, whatever the genre.
