North Carolina’s WNDRKND just dropped a compiled selection of tracks under the name of CVTS. Originally labelled Golden Age Neoclassical, the project brings together recent releases from the creative artist who has ties with fellow NC native and fast rising star, Well$. CVTS is the result of some extended collaboration with PGMW, a producer who has also worked with Well$ and Ibn Inglor. Inglor features on “Deus”; a swirling, spaced out but essentially aggressive track which sees WNDRKND include an attack on his own personal battles via Inglor’s cleverly executed rant on the theme of artistic integrity.
“I love this dark s***, forever goin’ hard, motherf*** your art. You feelin’ them feelings? Motherf*** your heart. You think I give a f*** about your god damn start? You think they give a f*** about your god damn art? Work motherf***** this yo’ god damn chance to prove to yourself you’ the god damn man”
Additional feature contributions come from Well$ and Topiq The Smooth Prophet on “Sorbet”, a playful departure from the dark edge which runs through the rest of this project. The highlight of CVTS, perhaps due to the entertaining accompanying video, is “Balaclava”. EARMILK premiered the visuals for WNDRKND’s ghostly lead effort last month, his main goal in co-directing the cold video being to answer the question: “how much emotional tension can we produce with only a few simple objects?” Much like the “Balaclava” video, CVTS succeeds in bringing together WNDRKND’s left field tendencies and raw ability to create solid rap tunes with “post-apocalyptic”, innovative production.
