Baths announces new EP 'Ocean Death,' shares title track

Electronic pop producer Will Wiesenfeld, a.k.a. Baths, has announced a new EP called Ocean Death, apparently a companion piece to last year’s critically acclaimed Obsidian LP. The EP will see the light of day on May 6, courtesy of Anticon.

Wiesenfeld shared the title track, which continues Obsidian’s theme of dark, tense emotion. While his falsetto hides the pain at first, it soon becomes clear that all is not well for Baths. The production reminds of Moderat in that it’s cold and suspenseful and as the title suggests, one gets the sense that Wiesenfeld’s fragile, desperate vocals are drowning in something far too powerful to withstand. While I can’t help but worry slightly for the poor guy’s state of mind, Baths is only getting better as he sinks further into the mire.

I received my degree in English from Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, and Virginia is still home. Apart from my yearly pilgrimage to Moogfest and occasional shows in DC, Detroit, and New York, I like to stick to the fringes, with an eye always open toward music that is forward-thinking and unique, whatever the genre.
