It is inevitable that funk and disco are making a strong comeback this year. Daft Punk helped to propel this movement with their latest release Random Access Memories and so many other funky tunes have come out of the woodwork before and after that albums release. Producers are trading their anti-climatic builds and talk-box synth structures for something deeper, sexier, and delicious. One newcomer is making large strides with his infusion of glitch, funk, jazz, and hip-hop – and his name is Cory Wythe aka Marvel Years. Gaining support from prominent glitch artists like Pretty Lights and Griz it is a no brainer that this kid is destined for greatness. His latest release is an original production called “On My Side.” As the sample at the beginning states, “Music is the sixth element – we need it so much and however we create it, I don’t think that really makes a difference.” Undoubtedly the kool-aid that Marvel is drinking is good and it resonates in his groovy guitar riffs paired with glitchy melodies. Keep Marvel Years on your radar because there is no question that he will be come a household name in the glitch-hop community.
