Blunda releases chilling second solo EP, 'Messages'

Andy Blunda, of alt-rock groups Paloalto (now Golden State) and Fastball, is a classically-trained pianist and award winning TV composer. In early February, Blunda released his second solo EP, Messages. Few hits arise when you look for the first EP, but we managed to find this alt-rock inspired gem with a bit of internet scoping. The current album has an iconic synthesizer-focused moody chillwave vibe perfect for a day at the park or a mid-day stroll around town.

All five tracks are unique and solid in their on right, but two are worthy of special attention. First, "Messages" takes on a dreamy demeanor with its evolving pads and grooving bass riff. Blunda's vocals may remind listeners of David Byrne, and the instrumentals pay homage to the new wave style of the 80s. The second, "If You Want Me", appeals more to synth fans with the intro's PWM square wave oscillator and the Muse-style vocal treatment throughout. A darker yet dreamier progression, "If You Want Me" distinguishes itself from the rest of the album with its unique sound design.

With a voice like Chris Martin and a sound easily compared to Neon Indian and Beach House, Blunda is a must have for all indie pop fans. You can purchase the full EP here.
