It seems like the recent revival in the 90's style of boom bap hip hop has no chance of stopping just yet, and one of the leading lights in the UK, ThisisDA, is set to keep the ball rolling this February when he releases his free album Super Arkane.
The young Bristolian has been featured on Earmilk before, and he kicked off 2014 by gracing our hip hop pages when he released "Trippin" to whet our appetites for his forthcoming project, and with less than a month to go before Super Arkane is released he has laid into our hands a brand new track and some dope visuals to go with it.
"Gridlock" follows on from past tracks from the talented emcee, as his regular partnership with Manchester based producer Mankub continues to deliver refreshing slices of hip hop gold. The jazz-based sample is sliced up cleverly, as well as a brilliantly placed vocal sample that gives the beat a more human feel, whilst some bumpin' drums carry the track along and adds some swing to the instrumental. ThisisDA comes through in similar fashion to his previous efforts, with clever wordplay matched by a slick flow that makes the track both easy to digest and exciting to listen to.
