A$AP Ferg – "DTM Awards 14"

2013 was the year that Harlem rose to take back their part of the hip hop throne back. The streets of New York hadn't seen a bunch of young, hungry emcee's rise up and conquer the hip hop world since Cam'Ron, Juelz Santana and Jim Jones formed part of the world dominating collective The Diplomats. The young upstarts in question were the A$AP Mob, who saw two of their artists in particular have a lion's share of the votes when it came to the album of the year votes across blogs and websites last month. Both A$AP Rocky and A$AP Ferg released full length albums, with considerable success as Rocky's Long.Live.A$AP reached number one on the Billboard Top 200 when it was released at the beginning of the year whilst Ferg's Trap Lord project reached number nine when it dropped in August.

Fast forward to the present day, and with 2014 just bursting into life, the Mob decided that it was just about ready to unleash some new material for us to listen to, with A$AP Ferg's latest freestyle "DTM Awards 14". The aptly named track is a Ferg freestyle over the recently released Drake track "Trophies", which was only released a week or so ago, and see's the Harlem native dedicating one of his verses to his mother and father, before lyrically blessing the rest of his crew. The track features the now trademark flow and style of Ferg, which harks back to the golden age of Bone Thugz N Harmony, who actually appeared on Ferg's album Trap Lord.

"DTM Awards 14" is the first offering we've had from the Trap Lord and the A$AP Mob, but it's definitely going to be the last. The entire crew are putting the final touches on their collective A$AP Mob LP L.O.R.D, which features the A$AP Nast and Method Man assisted banger "Trillmatic", and the project is due to be released on March 4th. For now however, you can stream Ferg's "DTM Awards 14" below, and if you haven't already heard A$AP Nast's "Trillmatic" then be sure to check out our previous post on it here.
