2013 has been a huge year for the alternative rnb and the trap sector of electronic music. A name associated to the success of this movement would be impossible without Ryan Hemsworth. The Canadian producer and DJ first started to turn heads in August last year when he put a even more intimate spin on Frank Ocean's "Thinking About You." Now we’re putting on the old headphones for another ride with Hemsworth, and his unique, slow track titled “Ribs.” I could go on about the vocal arrangement, or the subtlety of the drum work – but that’s really not what makes Hemsworth stand head and shoulders above his peers. This is a complete thought, and the song is just crafted better than his contemporaries are even capable of producing. With “Ribs,” it’s abundantly clear that future-R&B is on two levels: There is Hemsworth, and then there is everyone else.
