Rewind one year ago today in the eyes of Above & Beyond and you might see a familiar scenario. Less than a month after their annual milestone show and the buzz centers around an original ID that balances between hard, techy surges and euphoric trance breakdowns. Last year, it was the UK group coming off their first Group Therapy show in Bangalore, India, with crowds in person and at home still frisky over the debut of “Walter White”. It would later grow to become a set staple of A&B, a festival staple that had the trio’s unique signature.
If history has a way of repeating itself, “Mariana Trench” will further cement the legacy of Jono, Paavo, and Tony. As one of 19 new tracks they debuted in London at ABGT 050, it uses a familiar formula that still produces fantastic results. An emotional, expansive breakdown, that serves as a break to the pounding hook that carries through the rest of the track. Regardless of what you call the trance-house crossovers these days, this is another strong output from Above & Beyond, and will continue to grow their Group Therapy brand. They are the masters of their domain, and they couldn’t be happier to be there.
