Freddie Gibbs and Madlib have been the dynamic duo of authentic gangster rap for the start of this decade and their most recent cut “Deeper” once again shows us why. Much more mellow than the Adult Swim single “City”, which we heard earlier in 2013, the eerie tapestry that Madlib fabricates with a fluttering melody and dusty yet both deep and distinct kick is embroidered with the low growl that is Freddie Gibbs spitting. Though not a new narrative the genuine grit and perspective that Gibbs delivers strapped alongside his lyrics juxtapose to the soulful production play off eachother to their mutual compliment.
“Deeper” will be released on an EP of the same name on Madlib Invazion September 4th and also as a single for the LP Piñata that Madlib and Freddie Gibbs are dropping together, also on Madlib’s Madlib Invazion label, due Febuary 4th of next year.
