Shklovsky – "Lines"

Frenetic sampling, synthetic bass, and caffeinated percussion, Shklovsky's “Lines” oscillates between tumult and order. Opening like Dntel and closing like Blood Diamonds, there’s a lot in between.  Reverbed claps and snaps, glitchy hi-hats, and nostalgic synth lines are the supporting cast to the real star: vocal sampling.  Taken from N-Qia’s “Verb,” Shklovsky has twisted the sample until it’s virtually unrecognizable.  At times human, at others robotic, the sample is an almost constant presence, swinging through octaves and channel processing, threading all the other layers together. So come on, “Lines” were made to be crossed.
