With help from Kendrick Lamar, Terrace Martin releases "Triangleship" from his album 3ChordFold, out August 13. Known for his production work, the left-coast native is looking to make a name for himself as a vocalist. Few people in the industry possess the natural ability T. Mart embodies as a singer, rapper, producer and saxophonist. His resume boasts production credits from working with Kendrick Lamar, Charlie Wilson, and Snoop Dogg, just to name a few.
"Triangleship" is an easygoing, soulful rap track with Kendrick Lamar spitting the hook with his habitual flow. "My life is Mardi Gras," he recites. Martin keeps his flow and lyrics light and fun, which fits the track's feel-good mood. The track samples a chopped up version of Bobby Caldwell’s “What you Won’t Do for Love”, a classic song with a memorable horn part.
With an eclectic group of contributors, including Ab-Soul, Musiq Soulchild, and Wiz Khalifa, 3ChordFold promises to be a very diverse sounding album. It remains to be seen if his solo work can pick up any major industry buzz. However, I am sure no matter what happens with this album; the transitioning artist will continue to have a fruitful music career for many years to come.
