Earlier today, the Bon Iver camp announced a remix contest for his sophomore self-titled album. The initial news of the contest was met by many expressing, for one reason or another, hesitance or dissatisfaction. Some devout fans didn't want to tarnish the album by a slew of inadequate remixes being put together, while others, not particularly fond of Bon Iver, didn't want to be subjected to having to hear sub-par remixes of an artist they already didn't enjoy. Luckily, it didn't take long before a remix was released that would cast any doubts or aversion felt towards the contest away (at least for Bon Iver fans).
Teen Daze, the Vancouver producer, coming off his first full length release of All of Us in June, is back in the remix game with his recast of Bon Iver's "Perth". Teen Daze's remix opens fairly non-abrasively, removing some of the original guitars and replacing it with a slowly drawn bassline, a change, but one which shouldn't cause too much dismay to fans. Justin Vernon's ghostly falsetto still makes an appearance, and all is calm until 2:25 strikes and we venture into the unknown. I personally love both the original and the Teen Daze remix, which has now convinced me of the worth of the contest. Listen below, and if you enjoy, feel free to download.
