For all things swagged out and ratchet as the day is long, one need not look any further than Atlanta duo Mach Five (A.ware and Corey Davis). The visuals for duo's vid for the standout track "Breaking My Heart", off their latest project Ratchet Shit Vol. 2, presents the best of several worlds: sample-based hip hop production, a dope R&B singer featured on the hook and a well-executed conceptual music video.
For starters "Breaking My Heart" features an ill flip of Isaac Hayes' 1975 record "Vykkii." Secondly, the ever talented R&B/neo-soul crooner Bilal provides his vocals on the song's hook in addition to fellow ATLiens Hollyweerd. Lastly, the Artemus Jenkins directed music vid pays homage to one of my favorite Spike Lee joints, She's Gotta Have It.
Those familiar with my writing already know I'm not a fan of unimaginative hip hop vids. With that said, the creative visuals for "Breaking My Heart" are a welcomed breath of fresh air.
