While it's hard to believe that J Dilla's passing happened six years ago, it's not so hard to understand why many of us want to continue commemorating his outstanding work. Coming in June, the Yancey Music Group, founded by Dilla's mother, Maureen Yancey (aka Ma Dukes), will be releasing not only a documentary chronicling the Detroit producer's work and life but a deep 25-track album containing previously unreleased beats.

The documentary, entitled Rebirth of Detroit, was conceptualized by Yancey Music Group CEO Jonathan Taylor and will pay thorough homage to the beat maker's legacy. Per Ma Dukes' request to incorporate the Detroit hip hop community, the film will include D-Town natives such as Guilty Simpson, Danny Brown, Chuck Inglish and Phat Kat, undoubtedly showcasing not only some of Detroit's most respected forerunners but current game changers as well.

A soft release date for Rebirth of Detroit's soundtrack has been set for June 12, available digitally on Dilla's official site. Until then, view the film's trailer below.
